Fifteen years ago today Disneyland's PeopleMover closed for good. I felt old when I saw a message board thread titled, "What was the PeopleMover like?" It reminded me of Utah Phillips's song, "Daddy, What's a Train?":
Daddy what's a train? Is it something I can ride?
Does it carry lots of grown-up folks and little kids inside?
Is it bigger than our house? Well, how can I explain
when my little boy and girl ask me "Daddy what's a train?"
As a response to the Davelandblog post, "Kevin Doherty & The PeopleMover Project," here are some photos of the PeopleMover cars which continued life in the Rocket Rods queue.
The following Rocket Rods queue photographs were taken after the attraction had permanently closed:
So strange to see this area empty, since it was very crowded the two time I was able to ride the Rocket Rods. In a way I feel lucky to have had the chance to experience this short-lived ride... I liked it in spite of its deficiencies.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the photos!
I sure do miss the people mover. It was a great ride. Rocket rods was a sad failed attempt... I hope they put something there eventually.
ReplyDeleteThe Peoplemover cars pictured here were displayed at a recent Imagineering fan event at the Disneyland hotel. They had been purchased and lovingly restored to a classic yellow paint job by the new owner. He even constructed a realistic mock up of the operating panel from the ride. I was sad to see the Peoplemover go, sad even to see the rocket rods go... But it was fun to see these vehicles restored to their former glory.
ReplyDeleteBefore the Rocket Rods closed, I shot a panoramic ride-through stitched together from three angles. For those interested...
