In an October 17, 1968 article in the
Long Beach Independent, it is reported that Assemblyman James A. Hayes, R-Long Beach (39th District) would speak at 3 PM on Friday the 18th at the Disneyland Hotel. His audience and topic? He was to address the Freeway Support Seminar to discuss "what citizens [could] do to insure completion of the 12,500-mile system of freeways and expressways and to promote continued good highways." Who knew the self-esteem of freeways was so low that they needed support committees?
